ABOUT
JULIA MUKAI
Mukai is a 2D animator, motion designer, and multidisciplinary artist based in Brooklyn, NY. In 2025, Julia received a BFA in 2D Animation, with a minor in Psychology, from Pratt Institute. She is a passionate, detail-oriented, and organized creative with a strong work ethic. Her work combines research in psychology with her knowledge of motion design and film to create tactile, surreal visuals. Currently, Mukai is working with Emmy award-winning animation director Maya Edeleman on upcoming projects. She also manages production in animation and stop-motion for renowned makers Doug Fitch and Tommy Nguyen. Her senior capstone film, On Time Off Time, has been selected for 12 film festivals so far, and will be released to the public in the Spring of 2026. Mukai’s efforts take the viewer to an uncanny world of absurdity and challenge our notions of time. On the board of The Yellow Tulip Project, a nonprofit she’s worked with since early high school, she uses her creative design skills to grow the initiative. She plans to continue to gain experience to be a versatile, adaptable, and audacious maker.
