Julia Mukai is a 2D Animator student currently studying at the Pratt Institute. Mukai’s artwork describes the surreal and psychological, often with a detailed, painterly style. Early in her career, Mukai gained experience in collaborative freelance work from local brands such as The Merchant Company and Blackbear B12. During her studies in Brooklyn, Mukai continues to evolve her knowledge in the animation production pipeline and has contributed to a PSA, animated documentary, animated music video, and installations.
When Mukai is not animating, she is a passionate advocate for mental health. Anticipating a minor in Psychology, she created The Yellow Tulip Project at Pratt. As president of YTPP, she organizes community-based, creative events to facilitate healthy conversations to destigmatize these issues. She also participates in local animation communities such as WIA, ASIFA East, Asian Queens in Animation, Puppet Club, and Keyframe Animation Club.
